Nutanix and Pure Storage Deliver a Smarter Approach to Virtualized Workloads

As organizations look to cut virtual workload costs, Nutanix and Pure Storage deliver with a unified, full-stack platform.

Recent market mergers have led to significant spikes in virtual workload costs. Analysts project that cost concerns will lead 70% of enterprise-scale customers to migrate 50% of their workloads by 2028.

In partnership with Pure Storage, Nutanix has developed a new, integrated solution for mission-critical workloads that offers reduced costs, improved choice and enhanced performance.

What Users Want From Virtual Workloads

According to Ketan Shah, vice president of products at Nutanix, “the compelling event for this shift is sticker shock and dissatisfaction from existing virtualization solutions. That led us down the path of building a solution that’s capable of meeting customers where they are.”

As Jamie O’Hearn, solution architect team lead for Pure Storage at CDW, points out, what customers need from virtualization solutions is changing. “They want to use the technology vendor they’re comfortable with,” he says. “They’re specifically asking for hypervisor alternatives. Nutanix AHV is one of the better options out there, and this integration with Pure Storage helps customers make that shift.”

Finally, Brandon Jackson, solution architect team lead for Nutanix at CDW, says that enterprises are looking to reduce complexity and streamline deployments. “Companies don’t buy technology to tinker with it,” he says. “They don’t want to worry about compatibility.”

The Benefits of an Advanced Cloud and Data Storage Platform

When it comes time to renew expensive virtual machine (VM) licenses, IT leaders are asking themselves two questions, notes Jackson: Is it too risky? What should I do with my current infrastructure?

The integrated solution from Nutanix and Pure Storage allows “customers to seamlessly deploy and manage virtual workloads on a scalable modern infrastructure,” notes a May 2025 press release.

Key advantages of the solution include:

  • Simplicity and automation. Deep integration enables a seamless experience. Nutanix Prism delivers VM-centric operations and users can leverage Pure1 cloud-based analytics for storage insights.
  • Built-in cyber resilience that includes Nutanix microsegmentation and recovery, paired with encryption from Pure Storage. Pure Storage also provides SafeMode and immutable snapshots to further secure and protect data.
  • Flexibility and freedom of choice. Businesses can use existing Pure Storage arrays along with hardware from partners such as Cisco, Dell, HPE, Lenovo and Supermicro.

“Nutanix wants to meet customers where they are,” says Jackson. “That’s why the licensing is more flexible.” Companies can deploy this solution on-premises, in a colocated data center or in the cloud.

Embracing the Nutanix and Pure Storage Solution

The Nutanix and Pure Storage solution was announced in May 2025 and is slated for general release by the end of 2025.

Shah notes that companies can leverage the solution no matter their current virtualization environment. “If it’s an existing customer that has Pure Storage, they can work with Nutanix to acquire a software license,” he says. “If they’re doing a server refresh, for example, with Cisco, they deploy the new server and then work with Nutanix and Pure. And if it’s a complete greenfield deployment, then tech partners such as CDW can help.”

Not only does this alternative offset rising virtual workload costs, it also merges modern compute power with cutting-edge storage, so IT leaders can manage their mission-critical applications with more ease.
