Review: The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Is Designed with Security in Mind

The new laptop is powerful, safe and driven by artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence, and especially newer generative AI technology, is an incredibly powerful tool that may completely transform how business is conducted.

For example, GenAI can quickly comb the large language models and data sets that it’s been trained with to uncover obscure or hidden connections that might take a human a much longer time to discover.

However, an AI-powered model working at peak efficiency requires powerful processors capable of performing trillions of operations per second. More TOPS make queries return faster. Depending on the model, this can also make AI “smarter” by giving it more opportunities to query and analyze the LLMs. In general, the baseline for effective AI use is 11 TOPS.

That is just one reason the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 I tested with the Hexagon neural processing unit was so impressive: It can perform at 45 TOPS, four times better than most other laptops.

Well-Suited for the Future of Work

The entire laptop is optimized for AI, starting with the Snapdragon X Elite processor with 12 cores. This is combined with 32 gigabytes of ultrafast LPDDR5X SDRAM. The hard drive is speedy too, with a 1-terabyte NVM Express solid-state model that operates at near-memory speeds. Even components that don’t directly contribute to AI performance, such as the graphics processing unit, are designed to draw very little power and stay out of the way, like the Qualcomm Adreno GPU does here.

And while effective AI is the primary focus of the new ThinkPad, it’s not the only thing that it does well. Lenovo worked directly with the makers of 175 of the top premium business and productivity app companies to make sure that they too could natively take advantage of the powerful Snapdragon X Elite processor and the Windows on Arm architecture.

When using those applications, the performance is impressive, even when compared with something such as a fast but unoptimized desktop. And all of them are displayed on a brilliant IPS monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200 (WUXGA) that still somehow manages to barely sip at the available battery life.

The ThinkPad has also been certified as rugged against many of the most frequently encountered hazards found in the U.S. military’s testing suite. That will help to ensure the ThinkPad’s survival in the kinds of unpredictable environments that many small businesses find themselves in.

A Bastion of Security Protects the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 is designed with heavy security in mind. Sure, it supports powerful artificial intelligence integrations, but only for valid users.

That protection begins right at the power button, which features an integrated fingerprint reader to prevent unauthorized users from attempting to access any protected data. This is backed up by real-time memory and hardware encryption to protect everything stored anywhere on the laptop.

There is also an infrared camera that, when coupled with the standard one, can be integrated with a face recognition program such as Windows Hello. The infrared camera also detects when its user has left the area and immediately locks everything down. That prevents someone from coming over and using the laptop after an authorized user has stepped away.

Finally, the integrated ThinkShield security suite from Lenovo protects from several advanced attacks, such as hardware manipulation or basic input/output system hacking.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 is a powerful notebook that can efficiently perform almost any business-related task while also fully supporting and driving the rise of innovative AI initiatives.
