Businesses Are Delaying Upgrades to Physical Security Systems– But the Cloud Can Help

A recent survey finds that the cloud enables new surveillance analytics, making buildings more secure.

You’d think physical security would be one area where no business would be willing to compromise. Yet nearly half of organizations have, in fact, delayed new projects to boost physical security in each of the past two years, according to a survey by physical security technology provider Genetec. In 2023, the culprit was supply chain delays; last year it was economic uncertainty.

The delays occurred even though 57% of physical security end users cited aging infrastructure (both physical and IT) as their top security challenge. So, surveyors wanted to know what might cause delays in 2025. Here’s what respondents said:

Inflation: 54%
Attracting talent: 44%
Political uncertainty: 39%
Training: 36%
