Mobile Workspace Solutions Offer Simplicity and Security
As mobile deployments have become increasingly common — and increasingly complex — businesses have demanded simplified, all-in-one management tools.
In response, technology manufacturers have recently begun offering mobile workspace solutions that bundle virtualization, enterprise mobility management (EMM) and identity and access management (IAM) tools into single systems, explains IDC Research Analyst Bryan Bassett. These mobile workspace suites include:
- VMware Workspace ONE, which brings together VMware AirWatch, VMware Identity Manager and VMware Horizon Air
- Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite, which combines Intune, Azure Active Directory Premium and Azure Rights Management
- Citrix Workspace Suite, which integrates tools such as XenApp, XenDesktop, XenMobile, ShareFile Enterprise and NetScaler Unified Gateway
The idea behind these suites is to provide IT departments with the ability to maintain visibility and control over the entire mobile environment while simultaneously providing employees a streamlined user experience.
Virtualization tools let organizations push out apps and desktops to employee devices without putting data in jeopardy, Bassett says.
Meanwhile, IAM tools give workers single sign-on access to the apps they need to do their jobs, and EMM tools let IT shops keep tabs on all devices, apps and data in their mobile deployment.
