Hijacked Bitly URLs Point to Spam and Scams

The customized shortened URLs of many media outlets are being repurposed by hackers to point to fraudulent news sites, according to security experts from Websense. One of the reasons for this hijacking is due to the fact that many news organizations make their Bitly API keys publicly available, which the Websense team says is a mistake.
