What's the Best Kind of Music to Listen to on the Job? [Infographic]

The kind of music you should listen to while working depends on the kind of work you’re doing.

For millennials, working while listening to music is commonplace. Older generations might balk at this “distraction,” but research and survey data show that listening to music while working can actually help workers focus and be more productive.

Sonos, manufacturer of wireless audio devices, created an infographic that pulls together some of the data on the best music for work. Here are some highlights:

  • Heavy metal and classic rock are recommended for construction workers.
  • Jazz, pop, rock and techno are recommended for programmers.
  • Polka and oldies should be avoided by athletes and coaches.
  • There are no genre restrictions for people who work with numbers.
