How a Large Retail Chain Is Thriving With Edge Computing

When they were confronted with the task of upgrading devices at thousands of locations to the new Windows 11 operating system, technology leaders at Casey’s, a large convenience store chain in the Midwest, knew they needed a novel approach. With help from CDW, they employed an edge computing strategy, deploying new small servers to each store, enabling them to turn other devices into thin clients that don’t require their own OS.

BizTech went to Casey’s headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa, to discuss the project with IT and store leaders. Their experience is a useful guide to leaders in retail, financial services and other industries that need a scalable computing strategy when managing many remote locations.
