Why Businesses Hesitate to Refresh Devices
Daren Masanda, client solutions field marketing manager at Dell Technologies, says that many businesses want to wait on refreshing user devices. In some cases, they may feel they lack the manpower to manage an upgrade. “In others, it’s a slow-adopter issue,” he says.
As the Forrester survey notes, however, there are potential consequences for delaying a refresh: 57 percent of companies said that not updating their devices in a timely manner led to security vulnerabilities, while half encountered workflow disruptions and 44 percent saw reduced productivity.
One of the biggest challenges in refresh efforts is familiarity. “People are creatures of habit,” Masanda says. “People want and expect tech to just work. When you first deploy a new OS, even something as simple as having the taskbar at the bottom can cause trepidation.
With Windows 11, the taskbar is moveable — the user interface can look just like it did two years ago but with new features.”
