For a long time, one of the most important goals in the women's rights movement was ensuring that women were considered as equally as men for job openings and promotions.
But in a world where startups and small businesses are rising and thriving, it's becoming just as important to foster the growth of women entrepreneurs. The American Express OPEN Forum compiled some compelling stats and facts on the history of women-owned businesses in an infographic.
In the past 15 years, there's been a 15 percent growth in the number of women-owned businesses, according to American Express' data. Women-owned businesses constitute 29 percent of all enterprises and 7.7 million people are employed by them.
