The Small Business Owner's So-Called Life [Infographic]

SMBs balance the challenges of a stressful work life with the rewards of a successful enterprise.

If there’s one thing to be said about the modern small business owner, it’s that life in the SMB lane ain’t easy.

Software company Intuit created an infographic based on data about the professional and personal lives of small business owners, and it’s clear that many of them are living a more stressful life than you might think.

According to Intuit’s data, running a small business creates:

  • Two times as much stress as maintaining a stable relationship
  • Three times as much stress as raising children
  • Four times as much stress as managing personal finances

Hopefully, more business owners are figuring out ways to relieve some of this tension. Exercise would help, but according to Intuit’s data, 37 percent of business owners abandon their exercise routines in favor of work.

It’s not all doom and gloom, though: 82 percent of small business owners expect better cash flow in 2012 compared with 2011.
