BizTech Magazine - Technology Solutions That Drive Business https://biztechmagazine.com/ en Dell Technologies World 2020: The Keys to a Digital Future https://biztechmagazine.com/article/2020/10/dell-technologies-world-2020-keys-digital-future
The beginning of the pandemic was a jarring time. As people fell ill and social distancing restrictions kept others inside, the uncertainty was frightening, said Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies.

“There is a heartbreaking story of lives lost, shuttered businesses and rising unemployment,” Dell said during the opening keynote of Dell Technologies World 2020. “But there’s another inspirational story about the resilience of our global economy and how we have persevered.”

Any doubt that may have existed about the importance of a digital future was erased as technology surfaced as a key tool to continue daily tasks.

“One thing is clear,” Dell said. “Technology has never been more central than it is right now.”

Widespread remote work hasn’t necessarily changed the trends of technology in the working world. It just accelerated what was already happening.

“We’re having a glimpse of the future, and the organizations that are investing into that future have the advantage,” Dell said.
Keara Dowd https://biztechmagazine.com/article/2020/10/dell-technologies-world-2020-keys-digital-future Dell Tech World https://biztechmagazine.com/ad/dell-tech-world
Dell Tech World
https://biztechmagazine.com/ad/dell-tech-world Dell Technologies World https://biztechmagazine.com/events/dell-technologies-world https://biztechmagazine.com/events/dell-technologies-world What to Expect from Dell Technologies World 2020 https://biztechmagazine.com/article/2020/10/what-expect-dell-technologies-world-2020
IT departments have spent the better part of 2020 growing their environments. The sudden shift to remote work required teams to add new tools for their employees to collaborate or expand the solutions already in place. To get everyone up and running quickly, it was crucial to add these services immediately, with little thought as to how they might interact.

Now, several months later, many organizations are facing an overload of tech. With many businesses planning on keeping work at least partially remote for the foreseeable future, consolidating these tools will be key to keeping productivity on track.

This is the backdrop for Dell Technologies World 2020, an all-virtual event that will help businesses navigate these new waters. On Oct. 21 and 22, attendees will have access to keynote speakers, breakout sessions and peer networking chats designed to dive deep into current IT trends.

Here’s what attendees can expect from this year’s event.

WATCH: An era of transformation for digital transformation.

A Focus on IT’s Future

The future of work has been a common theme at industry events this year, and it will be a topic at Dell Technologies World as well. With the most challenging aspects of a major transition to remote work behind them, businesses are now turning their focus to continuity and sustainability, working to find the right methods to support their workers in both remote and hybrid environments.

As is the case every year, Dell will announce its newest tools and solutions. This will likely include cloud offerings, as more businesses have come to rely on cloud to power their remote work strategies.

The conference will also examine the simplification of IT. Organizations are looking for ways to manage a growing number of tools, environments and devices as employees remain out of the office. Expect Dell to have announcements in this area as well.

Technology has always influenced how we imagine the future, but this year has put a spotlight on that relationship. With so little known about the lasting effects of the pandemic on the workplace, businesses are placing a higher value on continuity and agility. Most of the conference’s breakout sessions will be geared toward those priorities, including how businesses can bring employees back to the office safely.
Keara Dowd https://biztechmagazine.com/article/2020/10/what-expect-dell-technologies-world-2020 CDW Tech Talk: Businesses Should Simplify Their Cybersecurity Portfolios https://biztechmagazine.com/article/2020/10/cdw-tech-talk-businesses-should-simplify-their-cybersecurity-portfolios
As the CDW Tech Talk “Maximizing IT Resilience with Adaptive Security and Infrastructure” wrapped up, one thing became clear: As digital transformation projects continue to accelerate for the rest of the year and into the next, businesses must build resiliency into every facet of their organizations, including not only their technology but also their people, processes and culture.

The event drew virtual attendees from around the country to hear industry experts discuss cybersecurity and risk management issues confronting modern organizations as they enter the final weeks of one of the most challenging years in history for IT leaders. Experts made several critical points.

READ MORE: Learn how to detect and respond to cybersecurity attacks faster.

The Pandemic Has Accelerated Digital Transformation

Far from slowing businesses’ digital projects down, the COVID-19 pandemic and associated business shutdowns drove organizations to speed them up. The reason is clear: In a physically distant world, digital engagement becomes the lifeblood of every business.

In fact, 85 percent of organizations have accelerated those efforts this year, according to research by McKinsey.

That’s made security even more urgent than usual. IDC found that half of businesses said their spending priorities for security solutions have increased since the start of the pandemic, while only 7 percent said it’s less of a priority.

MK Palmore, vice president and field chief security officer, Americas, for Palo Alto Networks, who spent 22 years as a special agent in the FBI’s cybersecurity branch, said three things are conspiring to make security a greater challenge for organizations: connectivity, the cloud and artificial intelligence.

“In the next few years, we expect as many as 42 billion devices to be connected to the internet, creating an expansive attack surface,” Palmore said. “At the same time, we know that most organizations are in the midst of some kind of cloud transformation. That creates challenges, because the same mistakes that organizations are making in on-prem environments they’re also making in the cloud. Then, there’s the prevalence of data and AI: How will this impact your digital transformation, and how will you leverage it to ensure security?”
Bob Keaveney https://biztechmagazine.com/article/2020/10/cdw-tech-talk-businesses-should-simplify-their-cybersecurity-portfolios CDW Tech Talk: What We Learned About Maximizing IT Resilience https://biztechmagazine.com/media/video/cdw-tech-talk-what-we-learned-about-maximizing-it-resilience
As organizations navigate the aftermath of disruptive events and economic turbulence in 2020, they continue underscore preparedness as a critical contributor to organizational value. Then the coronavirus arrived, not only throwing a previously robust economy into disarray but also making it more difficult for companies to engage in face-to-face conversations about potential M&A deals, or even to conduct basic due diligence.

Yet many observers predict that the near future will see an active M&A marketplace. Why? Because of the value that organizations can create by acquiring companies that give them access to new markets, new product offerings and new technologies.

Technology has long been a central component of the M&A process, but in recent years IT has actually become a main driver of many deals, as organizations seek new capabilities that can be unlocked only through applications and data. To successfully navigate an M&A deal, stakeholders must leverage solutions and services that help them efficiently integrate their IT environments.

Learn more by downloading our white paper: "A Smoother Path Toward IT Success in Mergers and Acquisitions"
https://biztechmagazine.com/resources/white-paper/smoother-path-toward-it-success-mergers-and-acquisitions Full Session: The Era of Flux and Transformation for Security Strategies https://biztechmagazine.com/media/video/full-session-era-flux-and-transformation-security-strategies
Digital transformation continues apace for businesses, allowing them to keep up with competitors and meet customer needs.
